Cow Palace Missive #5
More Cow Palace info from Kevin Patterson:
(please remember to contact Kevin with questions and suggestions.
You can reach him at kevin@redbarnproductions.org)
The Cow Palace saga continues. Don't let up on the letters AND phone
calls.
Emails only work for your individual State Representatives but send
them too (from every email address in your household!) If you
have called, call again. If you have written, be sure you have
written/copied your letter to the Governator, Senator Yee, plus the
other two authors of the bill, and of course, YOUR local Rep. AND the
San Mateo Board of Supervisors (see below) Everything you need is at
http://www.savethecowpalace.com
As soon as SB1527 gets assigned to a Committee, we will send you
that contact info as well. We must keep the pressure up! The other
shows are urging their fans and sub-groups to use the website
too! We are getting hundreds of hits per day!
Here are some of the very best ways you can help:
1) URGENT: The San Mateo Board of Supervisors are voting on a
resolution to support SB1527 THIS Tuesday. Write, email and call
all 5 of their offices to let them know you DO NOT support SB1527 and
you want them to table the resolution until a compromise plan can be
achieved that will save the Cow Palace and still provide Daly City's
need for retail in the vicinity. Try to find friends and relatives who
live in San Mateo, if possible.

Come to the meeting if you want, but communication prior to the
meeting is the key to effecting the outcome.
2) There are three more Daly City Information meetings. Try to make one:
March 8, 10 a.m.: Visitacion Valley Community Center, 66 Raymond Ave.,
San Francisco
March 8, 11 a.m.: Bayshore Community Center, 450 Martin St., Daly City
March 25, 7 p.m.: Saddleback Homeowners Clubhouse, 1800 Saddleback
Drive, Daly City
Please help us carry signs, get people to sign petitions and appear in
front of news cameras. Come in costume if you like. Anyone
do Elvis?
Be prepared to fill out question cards. Your questions will be answered
from the podium by the Daly City Manager or Senator Yee. The meeting is
not a public forum to debate the issue. It is Daly City's chance
to answer questions and inform the public. Be courteous.
Think win-win. The locals who showed up at the last meeting
wanted change. They think that tearing down the Cow Palace will
fix their blight. Don't try to tell them the Cow Palace brings in money
to the area, they don't believe it does. Talk compromise.
Selling off some of the Cow Palace property for a retail area can and
should work. It could provide money to upgrade the Cow Palace AND space
for needed retail.
Many thanks to the 25 who showed up last Thursday night at the Daly
City meeting (on same-day notice no less!).
3) Please volunteer to staff the table at the flower show for a shift
or two. In fact, every show at the Cow Palace until the bill goes
to a vote is important. Email: info@savethecowpalace.com with your
availability between
Wednesday 3/13 and Sunday 3/17, Shifts are 10am to 12:30 and 12:30 -
3pm - (getting into the show, if you want to see it, will cost $20.00
or $13 after 3pm)
http://www.gardenshow.com/sf/theshow/index.asp
4) Sunday, March 9th, KRON Ch. 4's Henry Tenenbaum will be
interviewing Kevin at the SF Flower Show (as they set it up). We
need a few folks in Dickensian attire to be there at 7:45 for an 8:15
AM live segment. Please email Kevin via info@savethecowpalace.com
if you can make it. Meet by the front door to the main arena.
5) Check the website for new articles and updates, AND encourage people
to visit the site who are unaware of the impending doom of the Cow
Palace. (print out flyers and keep them with you)
6) Once the Senate "Committee" has been chosen, we will all need to
write each and every member. They are the ones that will have the most
power to effect this bill. You will receive a missive on this as
soon as we know.
7) Print our the flyer from the website and distribute ANYWHERE.
Just download (pdf) and print. It prints 2 flyers to a page, so
make a cut and find people who share our desire to save the Cow Palace
and hand them a flyer!
Yes we are of course looking for alternate locations - AGAIN - but the
Cow Palace is really perfect for many reasons. We CAN and we MUST
save it. If anyone knows of a 100,000 square foot warehouse with a
sprinkler system, maximum 18' high ceilings and 15 acres of parking,
within 30 minutes of SF, let us know.
Thank you for your help! We will keep you informed as things
progress.
