Dickens Christmas Fair 2007 December Missive #3
(sent December 20th, 2007)
Thank You!
So here we are at our closing weekend. It has been a fabulous run and
I'm sure will continue to be so for these final two days Historically,
this is our biggest weekend, so be prepared for large crowds and lots
of interaction. The food lines will probably be long, so you might want
to bring a few supplemental items to keep you fueled.
Please, if you "conscientiously feel it is your duty" (a line from
Pirates) to do some sort of last day prank, keep it period appropriate
and theatrically valid. Our audience has paid for the sandbox in
which we play – we owe it to them to give them a show worth their
hard-earned quatloos. (Thanks to Therese for that last line)
If you can't do a prank that
#1 Is in period and doesn't break the illusion of Victorian England
#2 Is in proper costume and appropriate for your character
#3 Is not disruptive to the participants around you
#4 Adds to customer enjoyment, does not detract from it
Don't do it.
That said, I know this will be a wonderful closing weekend, so take
care of yourselves and those around you and have a great theatrical
time!

Multimedia Piece of SF State Website
(from Denise Lamott)
Please take a moment to check out a wonderful multimedia piece on Fair,
which can be found on San Francisco State’s online newspaper:
http://xpress.sfsu.edu/archives/arts/009916.html
Be sure to click on the “CLICK HERE TO VIEW MULTIMEDIA” button.
These two gentlemen from San Francisco State came out on the third
weekend and put together one of the best pieces I have seen on the
Dickens Fair in a long time. Their stories and images truly
capture the heart and spirit of the fair. I encourage you all to
share the link with your friends and family.
Once again a heartfelt thanks for your enthusiasm and willingness to
play along with the media when they came to visit this season.
Happy Christmas,
Denise

Looking towards the Coming Year
Wow! I can't believe it’s already time to start thinking about closing
up shop.
First of all; I just want to say thank you to my incredible staff
(helpers, minions – you chose the title).
Alexandria - as the costume shop manager and as my assistant: you
ROCKED! Thank you so much for sharing your experience & knowledge
with me.
Robyn, Cher and Katie: Thanks to you we got rave reviews on the lack of
lines during our awesome costume approval. Ya’ll done good!
Juliana – Thank you so very much for putting together such
comprehensive charts and handouts for the classes. Next year: Power
point!
To those of you who kept us company or just came by to say “Hi”: Sarah,
Paul (especially for the coffee!), George, Carrie, Bob, and who ever
else I am forgetting at this moment: Grazie mille! (I hear the
music starting . . . )
To all of you who took the time to look so wonderfully Dickensian – I
thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I had a great first year and look forward to repeating it again in
2008.
Returning
Borrowed Items
For those of you that borrowed items for the run, please make sure we
get them back on Sunday night or that you have made arrangements with
the costume department for their return. If not, I'll be taking your
check to the office for them to deposit on Wed!
I also have a favor to ask: Please check you closets and costume boxes.
You may find that you have tucked away items that you borrowed costume
from our stock or pieces of your own that you no longer use (or fit!).
It would be highly appreciated if you might find it in your hearts,
this being the Christmas season and all, to donate these items to our
costume stock.
Looking
Forward to 2008
One of my projects for 2008 will to be to hold classes for those of
your who would like to make new clothing for Dickens 2008. Lynn
Combs has graciously offered us space in Vallejo.
We are looking at a weeknight for the classes, most likely Wed or Thurs
and the approximate start date being sometime in Feb or March. The
series is tentatively called: Making your Dickens Clothes from the
Inside Out. We will cover both men’s and women’s clothing. If you are
interested please contact me at dickenscostumes@gmail.com or on tribe
at http://tribes.tribe.net/yesimadeitmyself/

Dancing begins: 8:00 p.m.

For Information: See http://www.peers.org, email peers@peers.org, or

Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig request the honor of your presence at a Victorian
12th Night Ball. Bangers and Mash will play a variety of Viennese
and rotary waltzes, polkas, mazurkas, schottisches, Lancers, reels, and
country dances popular in the early and mid-19th century (As usual, all
set dances will be taught or called and partners are not required. As
always at Fezziwig's parties, introductions to partners will be
cheerfully provided!).
Intermission entertainment includes performances by the Peerless Music
Hall and Mr. Charles Dickens himself . Gamers may enjoy either an
intellectual game of whist or a scandalous game of Wink, and the
evening will conclude, as usual, with a glorious Hallelujah Chorus
sing-a-long. Punch and a light Olde English snack buffet will be served
throughout the evening.
Evening or day dress from 1837 through 1870 (the heyday of Dickens’
career), any class, is admired, not required, and modern evening dress
is also perfectly acceptable. Hope to see you there!
Best regards,
Cathleen Myers
