2005: Special Closing Weekend Activities
(sent December 14th, 2005)
It's been a great year and we have a couple of fun things in store for
closing weekend. As most of you know, several years ago the
Adventurer's Club, in conjunction with the Dickens Fair, started the
annual Sehkmet Awards, affectionately known as the "Sehkies". It is the
Dickens Fair's own "Oscar" night, where the wonderful talents of
our cast are recognized. The nominees and award winners are the "best
of the best" at the fair, and are chosen through an exhaustive process,
by a panel of Dickens Fair directors. The awards recognize the
Fair's finest street, stage and musical performances, as well as the
best ensemble and individual character work.
The 4th Annual Sehkmet Awards Ceremony will be held at the Adventurers
Club this Saturday December 17th at 5:15PM. Steve George, director of
the AC, has been given a copy of the stage schedule for that day and
will try and have the presentation of the awards at times when the
nominees can all be there. This is a daunting task, (almost as bad as
the annual Oscar tabulation) and we wish him well. If you cannot be
there, please send a representative to accept your award in your stead.
Special Note: Each year there are surprise awards, so even if you don't
win in the category in which you are nominated, stay around just in
case there may be a surprise laying in wait for you.

Participants Only Performance of Naughty French Postcards
Now for all of you good adult-type children who are reading the
whole missive, the other special treat. Due to the overwhelming
popularity of the Naughty French Postcards, they will be presenting a
special participants-only performance Saturday evening at the V&A
at approximately 8:00PM (or whenever security has successfully
encouraged the last customers to leave the building.)
Beverage has also graciously offered to open the nearby Leather Bottle
Pub for your consummatory pleasure, at reduced prices.
As this is a private party, there will not be someone checking age at
the door, but we encourage parents to use their best judgement as to
whether you want your children to attend. It's a lovely show, but there
is some nudity, even though it is behind a scrim, and this is liable to
be a rather rowdy performance. We will have one official
photographer, but politely request that you do not take photographs, as
such photos, taken out of context and posted online, could cause
misunderstandings with the public.
And yes, we know there are other celebrations that night, Oak, Ash
& Thorn are at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley and Ye Gaskell
Occasional Dance Society has their Victorian Ball in Oakland. We
understand that you have choices in your entertainment and appreciate
your patronage. <wink>
