Dickens Christmas Fair 2007 November Missive #6
(sent November 29th, 2007)

Thank you all for a great opening weekend!  There are a few updates on the stage schedule, an updated version is on the missives site at http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html

Please remember to be quiet near the stages, we all know how the sound carries in the Cow Palace, and there's only so much projection a person can do... Please remember to take care of yourselves and your compatriots, we have quite a few folks already down with colds, etc., so let's be careful out there. Many thanks to our EMT Web, the "Other Books" cast and the others who helped with the medical emergency on Sunday. It was evidently viral induced respiratory distress, he's much better and sends his thanks.

Have a great second weekend!

During the weekend, found items are taken to the merchandise booth at the front of the fair, at the end of the weekend, they go to the Ops Trailer in the breezeway.

Check Potential Gigs With the Director and/or Stage Manager First
(from Robin Driskill aka Sal)
Improvization! What a wonderful thing. It keeps us fresh, keeps our acting skills sharp. It's also an opportunity to have much miscommunication and misunderstanding on the part of all who don't know what's happening. So, please use common sense and clear all "gigs" with the Director and/or stage manager of the area. Do not include yourself in an established scene, stage show or other event without being pre-cleared. This means no impromtu participation in such fun events like a scripted scene from any of the books or including yourself onstage at Mad Sal's Blow Out. And should the Director say a polite "no" to your request, thank them kindly for their time and understand that they have some very important reasons for denying your request. Thank you very, very much.

Got Package?
(from Therese Porter)
If a jolly Christmas Keeper (or other Other Books cast member) hands you a brown paper package, and you've made as much theatrical hay from it as you can, what do you do with said package?  You can hand it off to another cast member and extend the merriment!  Eventually, however, all such parcels may be returned to the Other Books cast area in the Green Room.  We'll redeploy them from there.  Happy Christmas!

Notes from the Costume Director
First and foremost I would like to thank all of you for looking so great and working with us to produce a show that looks so beautiful.

I do however have a few items that I would like to address:

1) Please wear the ENTIRE costume that you went through costume approval in, not just part of it. Also, if you have another costume that you would like to wear, please come by the costume shop and get it approved.

2) If you happen to forget a piece of your costume and would like to borrow a replacement for it please do not be offended/surprised/annoyed when you are asked to fill out a form and either leave a check for the replacement amount of the item or your drivers license. And do not be surprised if we do not have something in your size. Our stock is very low due to wear and tear on the costumes and to the fact that borrowed items are often not returned.

3) If you were given notes to get suspenders, remove your belt loops, find something else for your hair, add petticoats and other such things please make sure that you have done this by this coming weekend.

4) It is COLD out in the streets of London!  Please wear your hats, gloves, shawls, overcoats etc when out in the streets. It really does break the illusion when performers are out and about with out these items.

The best analogy that I can give is to think of Disneyland.  If you were to see the shop employees dressing in jeans and t-shirts or characters chatting about their personal life it would feel wrong .  It truly does take each and every one of us to create the magical illusion of the London of Mr. Dickens.

Our hours will be changing after this weekend - please keep an eye on the missive for updates.
(Open: 9ish-7:30. However - the shop may be closed for an hour or so during the day)
Thank you all again for looking so faboo!
