Slow Down on the Bay Bridge S-Curve and 511
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joy Toney reminds me to remind you:
Just thought you might want to remind folks who take the Bay Bridge to slow down for that darn "S" curve.  A, because it's a VERY dangerous curve, and B, because the police are handing out hundreds of tickets on the weekends.  We want everyone to get to the Cow Palace safely.  They may want to plan to leave home an extra 15 minutes early.
Also, a reminder about 511.  It's FREE to call, and fairly easy to use.  (Just don't call while driving, unless you have 'hands free'!  They're giving tickets for that, too! ) I very highly recommend 511.  It's been a huge help for me, when travelling to and from the CP.
(Note from Cat - 511 is also online at http://511.org/ )
Specialty Workshops This Weekend
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Robert Young)
Some of you may have been wondering about some new workshops on the schedule for this weekend. We have a couple of specialty workshops, geared for the needs of particular groups. These workshop leaders have been communicating directly with groups and venues who have characters that will benefit from these specialty workshops.  The curious may certainly join in.

Single Stick Workshop
Botta Secreta Productions will teach a sixty-minute seminar that will cover Combative Gymnastics that were known and practiced in the period of our Victorian event, and will include using fencing and singlestick techniques with the walking stick or cane., as well as defensive blocking techniques, disarming and take-down.

Participants would have the opportunity to practice these techniques under the close supervision of the Botta Secreta Productions staff headed by Tom Badillo, who has extensive expertise in stick fighting and theatrical fencing. He would use this expertise and experience as an instructor to ensure that the participant could study this aspect of Victorian behavior and society in a safe manner.

David L. Charles, Prevot d' Arms
Dr. John Sullins, Master at Arms
Thomas Badillo, Guru FMA

French Accent Workshop
Is your character French? Add that bit of je ne sais quoi to your performance by honing your accent to sound more French. Emphasis will be on adjusting your pronunciation of English to sound more French, mistakes you can make in English to increase your credibility, and little phrases for spicing up your dialogue to create your chef d'oeuvre.

Annie's Cheap Hair Update
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Annie Lore)
Got a mountain of hair to distribute, so I hope I can get everything to everybody this weekend. I'm planning to conspicuously park myself near Costumes on Saturday and have everything labeled and ready to pick up, and I'll try to get there fairly early. I don't expect to be at the Cow Palace on Sunday, so if you're not coming on Saturday see if you can't have a friend pick up for you.
Notes: I've discovered a chignon piece that may do in place of "Delightful Bubble", and comes in more colors. Also, some further curl options for the elusive 27/30 color blend. Will have samples! Write me at ImminentIdea@aol.com  with any questions.
Reminder: This Weekend's Schedule
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please see the schedule for this weekend, which has been posted on the missive site at http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html
There is also an updated mini-map of the venue, which may be especially for new folks.

Saturday we will have limited workshops and lots of rehearsals. (see schedule)

Very special thanks to Robert Young for organizing the workshop and rehearsal schedules again this year!

On Sunday, Dress Rehearsal Day there is a Mandatory Morning Meeting at 10:00AM at Fezziwigs', followed by the All Fair Character Round Robin.

The stages will not be running a fair day schedule as for many of the the shows it will be their first time on their stages and they'll need the time to figure out the tech, etc. Some of the groups may be running a fair day schedule however, please check with your director for specifics.

Please remember that
No vehicles are allowed in the venue on Sunday until after rehearsal.

Reminder: All Character Round Robin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Therese Porter)
Don't try and escape right after the mandatory general meeting Sunday morning at 10:00AM in Fezziwig's.  This year we are going to try to have ALL (and we do mean all) of the characters that make up our glorious London to recognize each other.
We do something similar each year, and in the past it has involved the book characters, but this time we mean to get all you Dickens denizens to know who everyone else is.  After the general meeting on Sunday, all books and shows cluster up with your casts, in large clumps, in a big circle in Fezziwig's. We will go around the circle and each director will lead their cast into the center one at a time. The group will walk around the circle until they return to the place they started. We won't have time to introduce the individual characters, but each of you will get to show off who your character is, with only your costume and mannerisms, in a few short seconds as part of your group.  At the end of character introductions, the entire cast will be broken into small groups to do individual introductions, tea/cocktail party conversation, etc. for 5-10 minutes. On the cue from us, everyone scatters into another group and does it again. (lather, rinse, repeat).  This should be fun and informative, and help us enhance the immersion experience we are creating for our audience.
Reminder: Area 51 Hours and Lost & Found at the Operations Trailer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reminder: Hours the Building is Open
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The building will be open from 8:00AM to 8:00PM (at least) on both days.
