New Shows This Year!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been brought to my attention that perhaps people who don't know
the fair as intimately as we all do, think that it's the same show
every year. We all know that it's not, so please tell your
friends
that we have a number of great new stage shows this year:
Victoria
& Albert Music Hall
The Mikado
Aladdin & Cinderella Meet the Monkey King
Saucy Sorcery
And each year the Naughty French Postcards is an all new show
Mad Sals'
Dockside Alehouse
The Delightful Dockside Dollymops
The (New)
Odyssey Stage
The Three Musketeers
The Crummles Theatrical Academy (a new participation show for children)
The Kondor Brothers
Tell everyone!
This Weekend's Schedule
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please see the schedule for this weekend, which has been posted on the
missive site at http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html
There is also an updated mini-map of the venue, which may be especially
for new folks.
Saturday we will have limited workshops and lots of
rehearsals. (see schedule)
Very special thanks to Robert Young for organizing the workshop and
rehearsal schedules again this year!
On Sunday,
Dress Rehearsal Day there is a Mandatory
Morning Meeting at 10:00AM at Fezziwigs', followed by the All Fair
Character
Round Robin.
The stages will not
be running a fair day schedule as for many of the the shows it will be
their first time on their
stages and they'll need the time to figure out the tech, etc. Some of
the groups may be running a fair day schedule however, please check
with your director for specifics.
Please remember that
No
vehicles are allowed in the venue on Sunday until after rehearsal.

All Character Round Robin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Therese Porter)
Don't try and escape right after the mandatory general meeting Sunday
morning at 10:00AM in Fezziwig's. This year we are going to try
to have ALL (and we do mean all) of the characters that make up our
glorious London to recognize each other.
We do something similar each year, and in the past it has involved the
book characters, but this time we mean to get all you Dickens denizens
to know who everyone else is. After the general meeting on
Sunday, all books and shows cluster up with your casts, in large
clumps, in a big circle in Fezziwig's. We will go around the circle and
each director will lead their cast into the center one at a time. The
group will walk around the circle until they return to the place they
started. We won't have time to introduce the individual characters, but
each of you will get to show off who your character is, with only your
costume and mannerisms, in a few short seconds as part of your
group. At the end of character introductions, the entire cast
will be broken into small groups to do individual introductions,
tea/cocktail party conversation, etc. for 5-10 minutes. On the cue from
us, everyone scatters into another group and does it again. (lather,
rinse, repeat). This should be fun and informative, and help us
enhance the immersion experience we are creating for our audience.
Cuthberts' Tea Shoppe Guidelines
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Tea
Shoppe begs the cooperation of the participants in helping to ensure
the
customers can have a pleasant experience at the Shoppe. Please
understand the
following restrictions are in place to make sure as many customers as
possible
can experience tea.
NO reservations are made for anyone before the customers are IN LINE
after
opening.
(and, yes, even though it is for a customer who is coming and not the
participant).
We are an establishment mainly for the customers and though we know it
is a
grand place to spend breaks, please have tea and leave in a timely
manner.
Staying for more than fifteen minutes after you've been served prevents
us from
using your table for waiting customers.
Along the same lines, some participants have been known to either have
their
party keep growing pulling chairs from wherever they can with no regard
to
blocking the aisle or as one leaves someone else comes in. These groups
can be
there a very long time. Please stick to your original party size
or work
with the host/hostess if you have special needs. See time restrictions
above.
Most participants come to the podium and make their reservations for
that day
(and we limit the number of such reservations per time period).
We have very few openings for "standing" reservations. We reserve these
for
groups who have a small time window for their break and who follow the
rules
mentioned above. If you group is in need of a "standing" reservation,
please
speak with the host/hostess and be understanding if we can't
accommodate your
schedule. We will do what we can.
Finally, participants may receive a discount in the form of free tea
when
food is purchased. The free tea is for each person purchasing food.
It's not
free tea for the table when one person orders food. We are a business
and need
to make our expenses. Although we love to feed you and make sure you
have
plenty of tea to drink, there is a limit to our generosity.

Online Map of Dickens' London
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a link to this site on the missives page, but this
page is especially great. Anile brought it to my attention: "I stumbled
upon
this wonderful website about London in the time of Dickens. I
suppose it's not new, but I hadn't seen it
before. If you click on the link 'Dickens London Map' it takes you to a
map of
1859 London with lots of information about the various neighborhoods
and
landmarks.
http://www.fidnet.com/~dap1955/dickens/dickens_london_map.html
It's quite detailed- if you scroll down, there
is a list of neighborhoods, and information regarding which among
Dickens
characters lived or worked there, what scenes took place there, or if
Dickens
himself lived or worked there. If you click on the "Dictionary"
button, it takes you to a site which
describes the history of that area and what it has been known
for. If you click "Detail", it takes you
to another website with an actual 1859 London map. That
particular website also describes the
life and work of Dr. John Snow, who
performed important epidemiological research on cholera during the
Dickens era.
Updated Thoughts on the Flu from Webb
& Priscilla
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings and Salutations!
Please read the revised and updated note from your friendly
Medical Staff regarding prevention of the H1N1/Novel Flu. We have
listed below a few simple
instructions to help you keep the flu at bay.
While some of them are recaps in a previous missive, there are some
additions/changes. So, please read it in
its' entirety.
1. Recent research
has shown that consuming warm fluids is beneficial in keeping germs at
bay in
the mouth and throat areas. It is
recommended that you consume warm liquids throughout the day.
Along these lines, gargling with warm salt
water or Listerine mouthwash are also suggested practices.
2. Frequent hand
washing! This cannot be stressed
enough! This is not only recommended for
vendors handling food, but also for everyone else. Use soap and
briskly rub your hands together
under water for at least 45 seconds. If
you are not sure how long 45 seconds is, sing your ABC's or Happy
Birthday to
yourself. The force of rubbing and water
will get about 90% of anything off your hands.
Remember, it is the actual rubbing motion that is most beneficial.
3. Please don't share
food and/or drink with anyone. The Flu
just loves an easy ride into your body via anything that might be put
into your
mouth, which you may have shared with a person who has the flu.
4. Cover your
cough. The Flu virus can fly up to eight
feet in a single uncovered cough. Old
school thought was to cover your mouth with your hands when you
cough. This can result in spreading the germs onto
anything or anyone you touch after coughing.
New studies suggest coughing into the bend of your elbow to contain
germs. This is not an area of your body
that is likely to come into direct contact with anything or anyone else.
5. Unfortunately, the
flu shot is in short supply. However, if
you are able to find it available, get the flu shot if you have any of
the
following serious health conditions: any
type of lung ailment, Diabetes type 1 or type 2, any heart conditions,
etc, and
finally if your Primary care doctor has told you that you need the flu
shot,
get the shot! The flu shot is also
recommended if you are around any of the high risk groups, such as
pregnant
women, young children, and the elderly.
Some of the reasons why I am putting this information out
for all of you is if we get each other or the paying customers sick, it
will be
a truly rotten thing for the show. If
you exhibit the symptoms of the flu, please stay home! If you
still choose to come and are running a
fever, the medical staff will boot you out!
Thanks for your time and efforts in doing all we can to make this a
fabulous fair!
