Dickens Christmas Fair 2009 November Missive #2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
|
Notes from your Missive Maven:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, Virginia,
another missive!
Please
read all the information carefully and save and/or print it for further
reference. All the forms mentioned above will also be available
at
workshops.
I noticed last night that Facebook
Ride Share Group has lots of requests for rides, but not so many
people offering rides. If you can offer rides, please logon and let
people
know.
Please remember to contact the folks referenced in each notice, rather
than hitting "reply".
Past missives can be viewed at http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html
Thanks and see you Saturday morning!

Looking For
Toy Parade Participants
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Teri Pope)
Do you want
an excuse to cartwheel and tumble down the avenues of London? Do you
have a
loud voice? Can you play an instrument? Does the prospect of dressing
up like a
giant cookie intrigue you? Then, come take part in the Toy Parade! All
comers
are welcome, and it's a great place for folks new to Dickens
Fair. I am specifically looking for
tumblers/gymnasts, singers and musicians, as well as generally loud and
delightfully obnoxious people of all sorts.
Sound like
fun? Interested? Meet me on the first day of workshops at Room A (The
Hall) at
2:30. Or email Teri Pope at iseultnel@yahoo.com
The Other
Books Cast Audition - First Day of Workshops Only
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Therese Porter)
The book character groups are ensemble casts
that pride themselves on showcasing the vast panoply of Dickens'
brilliantly
wrought characters. We put the Dickens in Dickens Fair! Dickens'
characters are big, bold and quirky
with a lot of theatrical and interactive opportunities, plus tons of
scenery to
chew. Audience interaction is our raison d'etre and our lives are one
big
theatrical and improvisational banquet throughout the day.
We are
looking for energy, commitment, fearlessness and willingness to be part
of an
ensemble, and we are casting a wide variety of characters, ranging
across all
ages, classes and emotional quirks. Review the previous missives for
the list
of characters, and if there is a character in our list of available
characters,
OR a role in a Dickens book or adaptation that you want to play (or
simply find
appealing) prepare a brief piece to read - and act - for the
audition. It will give us a clearer idea of your
capabilities and the type of character you want to play.
We will be
auditioning one day only during workshops - Saturday, November 7.
If you are interested, please come prepared
to audition, and sign up at Area 51.
Folks who are not prepared will not be auditioned.
If you are
cast, it is expected that your commitment to the cast will be your
primary
performing responsibility. You will be
expected to provide your own, Dickens approvable, costume.
If you have
questions, please email Therese Porter at airndark@aol.com

Scrooge Seeks
Gigs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Martin Harris)
Ebenezer
Scrooge here, or Yes Sir! to those who owe me money...
A simple request from the Heart of Dickens
Country in Kent, to the many who so brilliantly bring the true spirit
of
Christmas to the masses far away in San Francisco through the Dickens
Fair.
If you know
any schools, libraries, old folks homes, restaurants, bookshops or
Christmas
parties who would enjoy having me give my dramatic reading of A
Christmas
Carol, all or in part, to add that jewel to their Christmas crown of
seasonal
celebrations, please ask on my behalf ...you never know, I might change
my
attitudes towards debts owing.
Despite my
reputation, I do need these gigs to make ends meet so please take
advantage of
having a true blue brit from the source present the greatest Christmas
novel
ever written, certainly endorsed by Disney this week.
At least I'm
live, user-friendly and totally interactive and remember, storytelling
is more
powerful than any modern techno-media....'word-pictures' as Mark used
to say at
Faire.
See you
soon,
Reminder: Workshop Schedule &
Descriptions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Workshops
start
This Saturday morning, November 7th 10:00AM
at Sunset Ridge
Elementary School,
in Pacifica.
The third weekend (aka dress rehearsal
weekend) will be at the Cow Palace. Please do not go to the Cow Palace
on
these first two weekends. Stakeout
for the vendors isn't until the 14th, so it will not be available
the first weekend of workshops.
Please do not go to the Cow Palace until
dress rehearsal weekend unless you are building a booth or
environmental area,
as we have limited build time and there will be much construction
equipment,
power tools, etc. The Green Room areas will be available on dress
rehearsal
weekend.
The workshop/rehearsal schedule and the workshop descriptions for the
first two
weekends can now be downloaded from http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html
as .pdf ("portable document format") files, which can be opened with
the free and downloadable Adobe Acrobat Reader. Remember to chose
"landscape" if you print the schedule. The printed copies handed out
at workshops will be black and white as color printing is much more
expensive
when doing hundreds of copies.
The schedule for the third weekend at the Cow
Palace will be forthcoming.

Reminder: Changes Happen...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Important
Note: Since life often happens without consulting us, there may be
changes between now and November 7th. I will update the files on the
website as the changes are given to me, so please re-download the files
later
in the week to make sure you have the most recent information. I will
also send
out a missive if there are any major changes. Please also check in at
the office (see below) for posted changes or special notices.
A Special Treat - Dickens Fair Ring
Tones!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And a special treat for those of you who eat all their vegetables...
errr, read
all their missives...
(from Doug Jones of the Sweeps)
I finally finished editing the ringtones I recorded last year. I taped
each
character during the show after telling them it would be used to make a
ringtone for promo use "next year".
I have included both MP3 and M4R versions.
I have tested them on my iPhone and the M4R files work. I'm sorry I
couldn't
figure out how to get the MP3s to other devices. If you need them in
any other
format, I can convert them. Thanks to Martin for the wonderful idea!!
For the iPhone, here is the process:
Unzip the iPhone Ringtones ZIP file onto your desktop (or
someplace you can find it)
Launch iTunes
Select "Add Folder to Library" from the File menu
Find the unzipped ringtones folder and click OK
Plug in your iPhone and go to the Ringtone tab in iTunes
The Dickens tones should be there
You can preview and select the ones you want to sync to your phone
Perform a sync
On your phone, go to settings -> sounds -> ringtones and they
should be
there
Select the one you want to use
Enjoy!
