Kathleen Bartholomew Needs
Your Good Thoughts
Some of you already know that Kathleen Bartholomew, our own Mother
Bombey of the Green Man Public House, had a heart attack on Monday.
Kage Baker emailed that "Kathleen had an angioplasty and they found out
the problem was narrowing of arteries-- not by cholesterol, though, by
arterial stenosis. So they installed four stents to keep the arteries
wider and that should fix it. God willing. Barring something unforeseen
she should be able to come home soon. So if you'd let folks know that
any good vibrations, prayers or whatever would be welcome, I'd greatly
appreciate it.
I would like to state for the record that she got the hospital to get
her an emergency ballot and still voted!"
Spreading The Word...At Work
And From Home!
(from Kevin Patterson)
Corporate, in-house, club, and personal emails are one of the very best
ways you can help us promote Dickens!
Please use the following information to forward (you can also pull
photos, map, etc from the Dickensfair.com "Media" page):
Visit London in San Francisco! Join us for the 30th Anniversary of the
Great Dickens Christmas Fair filling over 100,000 square feet of the
Historic Cow Palace Exhibition Halls! The only event of its kind in the
world, the fair is a holiday adventure into the pubs, dance parties and
Christmas shops of Victorian London. Hundreds of costumed players
invite you into a twilight evening in Charles Dickens¹ London Town
a city filled with lively and colorful characters from both
literature and history. Enticing aromas of roasted chestnuts and hearty
foods fill the air. Cries of street vendors hawking their wares
ring out above the bustling crowd. Over 100 lamp lit shops are filled
to overflowing with Christmas presents. It's the perfect holiday escape!

tickets and information.
Online VicSpeak
Hilary Ayer reminds us of the online resource for Victorian Middle
Class & Upper Class Speech, (ie VicSpeak) at this URL. It is a
supplement to the class, not a substitute.

Telegraph Booth
(from Karen Porter)
Yes, Virginia, the Telegraph Booth will be back this year! Please
direct any questions to me at theonlygypsyrose@netscape.net. I
want to have people scheduled for certain times this year since we have
a lot of request for positions and only so much room. Please see
me, Karen, or Barbara so we can get your names on the list. See
you all on Sat.!!!
A Word From Phyllis Patterson
and Timegames...
(Note from Cat - as with the VicSpeak site above, the Timegames online
curriculum is supplemental and does not take the place of workshops)
Timegames educational programs online are primarily to serve as a quick
study for preparing our fair visitors to think of their visit as a trip
to Victorian Britain. Awaiting them online is a curriculum that also
may serve as a good review for you - our participants, especially those
of you in rehearsal who have very little time for weekend workshops.
Online subjects are at
http://www.timegames.org/dickens-contests/names.html and include What's
in a Name?, Your Occupation in the 1800's, Mind Your Manners, Comments
for All Occasions and the Class System in London.
During the fair we'll be bringing as our guests certain librarians and
honoring also excellent drama directors from high schools, college and
community theaters. In a few days we'll honor those *we* know about;
YOUR SUGGESTIONS FOR THOSE TEACHERS AND DIRECTORS WHO CHANGED YOUR
PERFORMING ARTS AWARENESS CAN BE PHONED IN to Phyllis at 415-892-0162.
I'll need to speak with you personally and soon as invitations are
limited!
