New Adventures!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Steve George)
Are you new to the Great Dickens
Christmas Fair? Haven't found your niche yet or need a change of pace?
Try The
Adventurer's Club! We need new members of our esteemed Club
Staff. Both Maids
and Footmen are needed.
Also, we are ever seeking Adventurers,
Luminaries of many disciplines and noteworthy personalities of the
glittering
Victorian age. Explorers, Writers, Social Reformers! John Hanning
Speke,
Flinders Petrie, Dr. Livingston are, thus far, missing! You are needed!
Come
forth!"
For more information, contact HG Wells
at the Adventurers' Club.
Or visit us at Workshops after the
first All-Hands meeting.
Annie's Cheap Hair and No Hoops!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Annie Lore)
We're having to pursue other avenues
for our hoops this year, it seems, and Barbara at Fezzi's is working on
making
up our own in-house. And of course there's eBay.
As to hair, for the first workshop weekend or two Pam Riby will be
hosting hair at her table. You can order and pick up, and there are
some pieces
available for sale on the spot. I'm away until the 14th and may or may
not be
coming down second weekend. Good luck!

West Bay Opera Company has Costumes
for
Rent
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Liz Martin)
West Bay Opera Company has costumes for
rent for DCF participants.
Please contact Michelle Louden at mmlouden@sbcglobal.net
She
has a copy of our guidelines and will work to keep you within them.
On-the-spot Alterations at Workshops
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Katie Vardijan )
Got a hand-me-down
costume that needs a little fixing? Buttons gone
awry? Skirt or
pants too long? Vest need the points removed? Bring your
garment (or
garments!) on over to Katie's table at workshops and
she'll either do
the alteration that day or bring it back the following week all
fixed
up. Location will be announced at the morning meeting.
Thanks and see you
Saturday!

Updated Dark Garden Information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Michelle McAvoy)
The Dark Garden corset modeling workshop has been revamped for this
year and
will include some short video clips! If
you did not appear in the window last year, or if last year was your
first year
modeling, you need to attend the workshop in order to be scheduled to
model in
the window this year. Long-time models
are also encouraged to attend. It will
be offered one time only, immediately after the main meeting on the
first day
of workshops.
Questions
can be addressed to miss.mcavoy@yahoo.com
Earn $$$$ and Enjoy the Fair!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Karen Porter)
The Telegraph Booth
is looking for a few good men (or boys) to run telegraphs
throughout London. Age is not a problem but must be able to read
and
project (not yell). If interested meet with me on Sun. 11/8 at
lunch in
the open area. I also need a couple of good calligraphers or
someone who
has very good penmanship. Again, age not relevant.
Please
remember though that we are not a "baby-sitting service". I
expect all my people to work since they are being paid, not just hang
around.
Thanks!

Calling
Cards, The Bulletin Newspaper and Vendor Ads
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Don Cox)
THE ELITE
PRINTING COMPANY will again be presenting printing
demonstrations at the
Dickens Christmas Fair to all and sundry.
Sharon Sullivan, daughter of Sully the Printer, will be carrying on her
father's nearly four-decade tradition to the "letter" with the help
of Don Cox. A web presence for our
activities can be found at
http://home.earthlink.net/~doncox/bulletin/bulletin.html
CALLING
CARDS for actors' characters will be printed by Sharon Sullivan
with period
letterpress equipment for the kind donation of $15 for 150 (paid at
pick- up
time, as always, should she find herself unable to complete the
job.) Orders must be turned in to Sharon Sullivan or Don
Cox, or emailed to faireprinter@yahoo.com to reduce the
chances of orders getting lost. In addition
to what you wish on your card, please include your contact information
(email
or phone number) should questions arise about your card. Most
color or background work requires
running the cards more than once, so negotiate with Sharon for
such work. Deadline is nominally second weekend of Fair
if you want them completed by final weekend.
A few samples may be found at
http://home.earthlink.net/~doncox/bulletin/cards/cards.html
THE BULLETIN
NEWSPAPER will
return to terrorize the populace of London with its unique yellow
journalism. Stories and non-commercial character ads may
be submitted to doncox@earthlink.net. Don Cox, in the guise of
Justin
Case, disreputable
editor of The Bulletin, will once again prowl the fogs of London.
Grant an
interview or let slip gossip. This is an
ideal way to create some notoriety or scandal around your character
with which
people can gig. Previous years' stories
may be found at
http://home.earthlink.net/~doncox/bulletin/archives/archives.html
VENDOR
ADVERTISEMENTS may be obtained in The Bulletin by anyone the
editor deems suitable
for the kind consideration of $10 per sq. in.
Columns are 2 inches wide, multi-column ads are okay, and vertical
space
is assigned in half-inch increments. Ad
will remain for run-of-fair. I will
compose a period-style ad for you or you
may submit artwork which blends with the newspaper. Artwork will
be rendered at 300 DPI as a black-and-white
line drawing, saved as a PNG file, then
made into a printing plate which will print something not much more
than 100
DPI, so be aware this is a bit rougher than the last few years.
All proceeds go towards offsetting our
printing costs.
Reminder: Workshop Schedule &
Descriptions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Workshops
start
This Saturday morning, November 7th 10:00AM
at Sunset Ridge
Elementary School,
in Pacifica.
The third weekend (aka dress rehearsal
weekend) will be at the Cow Palace. Please do not go to the Cow Palace
on
these first two weekends. Stakeout
for the vendors isn't until the 14th, so it will not be available
the first weekend of workshops.
Please do not go to the Cow Palace until
dress rehearsal weekend unless you are building a booth or
environmental area,
as we have limited build time and there will be much construction
equipment,
power tools, etc. The Green Room areas will be available on dress
rehearsal
weekend.
The workshop/rehearsal schedule and the workshop descriptions for the
first two
weekends can now be downloaded from http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html
as .pdf ("portable document format") files, which can be opened with
the free and downloadable Adobe Acrobat Reader. Remember to chose
"landscape" if you print the schedule. The printed copies handed out
at workshops will be black and white as color printing is much more
expensive
when doing hundreds of copies.
The schedule for the third weekend at the Cow
Palace will be forthcoming.

Reminder: Changes Happen...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Important
Note: Since life often happens without consulting us, there may be
changes between now and November 7th. I will update the files on the
website as the changes are given to me, so please re-download the files
later
in the week to make sure you have the most recent information. I will
also send
out a missive if there are any major changes. Please also check in at
the office (see below) for posted changes or special notices.
