Hoops (uh-oh) and Hair (aha)!

(from Annie Lore)
My hoop lady seems to have vanished, and we're fearing the worst, so as far as anyone knows at this point you'll have to get 'em somewhere else. eBay is always an option. But the wig company is hot to trot! However, I'll be out of the country November 4th to 14th, which makes ordering and pickup trickier. I'll still do email and can put in orders, plus I can have someone host the samples and color ring at workshops. The pieces may have to come down with someone else on the 15th, depending on what shape I'm in as to jet lag and general exhaustion...  write me at ImminentIdea@aol.com

Three Musketeers Needs a Cellist!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No, you're not going to play it with a sword and no you don't get to buckle swashes. What you do get to do is work with other string players (and a percussionist) to create lovely and exciting French Baroque music for the Dickens Fair production of The Three Musketeers, directed by Michael Cawelti  and appearing twice daily on the new Odyssey stage (which will be taking the place of the Sugar Plum stage).  We are also willing to consider other instrumentalists.  Must be at least intermediate quality player, have own instrument and read music (or at least chord charts).
If interested, please contact Cat Taylor cat@redbarnproductions.org
The Front Gate Needs You!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As a member of the Front Gate Auxiliary Volunteer Corps, you are uniquely responsible for one of the first impressions made on our guests when entering London.  Yes, it is important to properly receive the ticket, ensuring it is the correct ticket, answering questions, stamping hands for re-entry, distributing maps & schedules, and taking surveys from exiting guests.  But that is not all!  You are an ambassador of sorts, a time travel employee, who sits astride the past and the present, while representing both.

Most of our volunteers work with other groups, and find time to give generously at the gate.  The benefits are legion... The smile of a child, the familiar pat on the back, a wink from a friend.  The satisfaction of knowing that you are singularly responsible for the happiness of our guests, and the knowledge that The Operations Manager can sleep...just a bit easier knowing the front gate is all right.

See Mark Solum or Steve Johnson at the first weekend of workshops to inquire about scheduling.
Cheers!

Mark Solum
Operations Manager Extraordinaire

(Note from Cat: Mark will be onstage at the morning meeting.)

The Dickens Family Parlor is Looking for Sons of Dickens
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you a young man about town who is looking to ride the tailcoats of Victorian fame and celebrity?
Then we want you! The Dickens Family Parlor is searching for young men to portray four of Dickens sons:
Francis Jeffrey Dickens - Francis considered many careers including medicine, farming and journalism.  He ended up joining the Bengal Mounted Police.  Later he joined Canada's Northwest Mounted Police. In 1886 he resigned his commission and passed away within the year.
Alfred D'Orsay Tennyson Dickens - When he was 20 Alfred left England, as well as many unpaid bills, and went to Australia.  There he married the "Belle of Melbourne", Jessie Devlin.  Sadly she died in a carriage accident four years later leaving Alfred alone with their two girls. After his father's death Alfred gave lectures on his father's life and work.
Sydney Smith Haldimand Dickens - Charles Dickens was very proud of Sydney's naval career.  However later he was very displeased about Sydney's financial troubles.  Sydney passed away when he was only twenty five.  He died while trying to return home for sick leave.
Henry Fielding Dickens - Henry was nicknamed Harry and is often called the most successful of Dickens' children.  He was a sportsman and had a very successful career in law.  In 1922 he was knighted.
We're looking for men who are not afraid to engage the customers, have improv experience, and have a strong stage presence. While Dickens was hard working and successful, his sons were not so fortunate in their luck but full of great ideas and enthusiasm.
We will be holding auditions at workshops (12:30pm - Sat/Sun-Nov 7th/8th) - Please come prepared with why you want to portray one of Dickens' sons and based off the small biography above, what you feel you can bring to the character that will make it memorable. For Francis and Alfred, we are flexible on age for the right actor.
Questions can be directed to Claudia Laughter at claudia.laughter@gmail.com
Reminder: Workshop Schedule & Descriptions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Workshops start
Saturday morning, November 7th 10:00AM

at Sunset Ridge Elementary School, in Pacifica. (see below for more info) The third weekend (aka dress rehearsal weekend) will be at the Cow Palace. Please do not go to the Cow Palace on these first two weekends. Stakeout for the vendors isn't until the 14th, so it will not be available the first weekend of workshops.

Please do not go to the Cow Palace until dress rehearsal weekend unless you are building a booth or environmental area, as we have limited build time and there will be much construction equipment, power tools, etc. The Green Room areas will be available on dress rehearsal weekend.

The workshop/rehearsal schedule and the workshop descriptions for the first two weekends can now be downloaded from http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html as .pdf ("portable document format") files, which can be opened with the free and downloadable Adobe Acrobat Reader. Remember to chose "landscape" if you print the schedule. The printed copies handed out at workshops will be black and white as color printing is much more expensive when doing hundreds of copies.

The schedule for the third weekend at the Cow Palace will be forthcoming.

Reminder: Changes Happen...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Important Note: Since life often happens without consulting us, there may be changes between now and November 7th. I will update the files on the website as the changes are given to me, so please re-download the files later in the week to make sure you have the most recent information. I will also send out a missive if there are any major changes. Please also check in at the office (see below) for posted changes or special notices.
