Bay Bridge and BART Closure Saturday Morning

Many thanks to Anthony Argyriou for this heads up!

Caltrans is doing another Old Bay Bridge pier demolition Saturday (and possibly Sunday) morning, which will cause a short (10-20 minute) closure of the Bay Bridge and BART through the Transbay Tube, sometime between 8:00am and 9:00am.

It's possible that conditions will be poor at the scheduled time; the BART press release has alternate times. They're going to stick within those windows because they have to have certain tide conditions to do the implosions.

Anthony Argyriou

(from Kevin Patterson)

The Dickens Fair is offering free admission during the first two weekends of the Fair to those who have lost their homes in the Northern California fires.  If you know of anyone who would like to take advantage of this offer, they need to email and MUST include the address of the home that burned.
The fair will then put up to 4 tickets (adults or kids) at Will Call for them. They will need to present identification at Will Call to receive their tickets.

Please make sure that any re-postings of this offer includes the complete information, there has been some confusion.

Some classes can only accept a limited number of people at one time in order to functionally teach their class. Most of these limitations are listed on the Workshop Schedule.

Please arrive at that class early if that is the only time you can take it. If any of the teachers turn you away because their class is full, please do not argue, but come back at another time.

(from Ed Pizzini)

There will be a short cast meeting at 11:30am on Saturday October 28th in the theater for all of the current and new cast members who reside in the Sal's area. After the meeting, we will be holding the first of two rehearsals for Blow Out from 12 - 1:30pm. If there are any questions, please contact either your specific director or myself at salsdockside(at)

Mother Goose Audition Time & Location

(from Robin Edwards-Harvey)

ANY person who is interested in auditioning for Mother Goose will need to audition in room 208 at 4 pm after the general Toy Parade meeting. Contact Robin Edwards Harvey at for more information.

Jack is Back Casting Notice

(from Heather Swarner)

Looking to fill two roles this year for Jack is Back, a hilarious melodrama played three times a day on the Father Christmas stage. Set in the American West, it's chock full of physical comedy, romance, adventure, and good old fashioned American violence. It's family friendly, with plenty of jokes that mom and dad will enjoy, too. It's a very fun show to watch and perform.

The roles:
- Jack: This part is for a male, 20-30 years old. Jack is the hero and love interest to Geranium, the ingenue, but this is not a kissing story.

- Sam Snidely: the Villain. Snidely is a comic villain, and needs to be larger than life.

Please note, you must be able to commit to the entire Fair run, plus most, if not all, workshop weekends. These are paid parts and we have a private dressing room behind the Father Christmas stage. I'm happy to have actors from other casts audition, so long as your director approves and it fits into your existing schedules. These roles are open to first time Dickens performers.

Please PM Heather Roni on Facebook, or contact me at

Needed: Characters from A Christmas Carol - Auditions at 3:00 on Saturday

(from Therese Porter)

It's The Book, without which we would not be doing this! We are currently looking for a boy (or two) 10 to 14 years old. We also need two smallish children - either boys or girls - to play Cratchit children as well as Ignorance and Want. No speaking but a great deal of physical acting. Children must be poised, mature and comfortable on stage.

Peter Crachit/Young Lad (the one Scrooge sends off for the turkey)
Peter Cratchit is a boy being thrust too young into a man's estate, optimistic and devoted to his family. Two scenes, some lines and theatrical business.
The boy who engages with Scrooge after his Redemption has some excellent lines and a lot of great theatrical business.
This is a commitment of time and energy that requires memorizing lines (you may be assured that many of our audience know The Book). These roles may be combined

Auditions Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Room 114 and a limited amount of time after workshops on Sunday. If you have questions, contact Therese at

Pam's Cheap Hair

(from Pam Riby)

Pam's Cheap Hair will be returning this year on a limited basis. I will be matching/selling/collecting prepayment on Saturday and Sunday of Weekend #1 in the high school courtyard, and thereafter, by appointment only.

However, I am setting up a hair ordering station at my daughter's shop in Downtown Berkeley. The address and name are:

1677 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley
Hours: Monday to Saturday, 11 to 6.

If you want the styles I offer, you must meet with me to get your hair matched.  This takes about 5 minutes usually and we will try to get as close to your real color as possible.  This cannot be done electronically.  If you have bought hair from me before and know your color number, you're in great shape and can in fact order it without rematching (unless you've dyed your hair a very different color)--but prepayment is always necessary.

Please note: not every Victorian style is available from the company in every color.  We can, however, get very close.

My email address for appointments is:

Just a reminder that there is a Dickens Fair ride sharing group at

If you need a ride to the fair or workshops, you can post there. Even better, if you can offer a ride, please post there! Thanks!

Reminder: Online Participant Registration

We will once again be using the EventBrite system for participant registration, as we do for the tickets to the Dickens Fair. This will be for all participants in all categories.

Everyone enters their registration information, and by clicking the appropriate boxes, have extra fields to fill in based on what they're doing at the fair. Once you've registered you will be emailed a receipt from Eventbrite that you will need to print out and bring to workshops.  Your registration receipt will have places for workshop sign-offs, director/booth owner acknowledgement and costume approval.  (Note that a limited number of forms will be available to be filled out at workshops, but doing so online greatly expedites the process.)

Please also note that there is a place for adults to acknowledge that you have read and understood the
Participant Handbook. It is on the missive site at:

Once you have completed the pre-fair process you will take the completed Eventbrite receipt/registration form to the Pass House to be validated (scanned) and checked against the cast lists  so you can receive your gate pass.

This allows us to have everyone's information in a computerized system in case of emergency etc, without having to enter every registration form manually. Last year this greatly sped up the lines and we will be doing this from now on.

All participants will still need to be on one of the director or booth owner lists, which will be cross-checked when each person brings their completed registration form to the registration desk or pass house.

This registration process will of course not be available to the general public so you will need a password to access.

The URL:
The Password: Registration@DCF2017

Please get registered soon and we will see you October 28th at workshops!
