An Update From Martin Harris
Rising like a phoenix from the ashes after nine months of recovering from two major surgeries, Scrooge shall return triumphant to share the good news of Christmas.   May I say a most sincere thanks to all those who supported me through this time of constant challenge.

My scary close-call laparoscopic prostatectomy in January happened because I insisted on further testing, (ignoring my doctor's advice, who said, Nothing to worry about!)  After the op I was told the cancer was about to metastasize into the bone and if ignored, I wouldn't be here right now.

This left me with a clear message to all men over 40, Don't be a sissy! Go and get checked out just in case and demand to know the whole story, knowledge is power!....remembering that I had no symptoms when I first asked my doctor. The second operation was simply a full left hip replacement in June and I was Morris dancing again in September!

As every year I am looking for contacts to give my dramatic readings of A Christmas Carol at schools, libraries, Old Folks Homes, Corporate Functions etc and having been off work all this year would greatly appreciate any help with this.  I'll be there for Dress Rehearsal, CDs in hand discounted for Fair Folk that weekend only.

The highest praise and congratulations needs to go to Kevin and his loyal helpers for saving the Cow Palace.  I'm sure Scrooge would have only one thing to say to both those polluted politicians and the greedy bankers who forced our world into another Dickensian dungeon of crumbling credit...Bah Humbug!!

An Update on Samara Lefson
This in from Carol Goodman - Beverage & Catering Coordinator,  regarding one of her servers and friend to many at the Fair(e)s.

So, we are almost finished with our treatments here in Boston, tomorrow is our last one, yea!  Unfortunately, I took  bit of a bad turn recently.  I was having trouble breathing and so we went to the ER here at Mass General and they took some chest scans and such and found out that I have pulmonary embolism, which is blood clots on the lungs.  They are scary because if they dislodge it can cause a stroke, uugh.  So they put me one some anti-coagulants to thin my blood and hopefully that will take care of the problem.  Since blood clots are common for cancer patients I would be on this medication indefinitely.

I have been in the hospital for two days now, and have met with a group of docs who are looking at the scans.  They are concerned that I may also have nodes that have spread from the tumor in my back, to my lungs.  Right now they are still looking at all the scans and will probably take some more before they can be sure if the cancer has spread.  We are absolutely praying that it has not, because it would mean that the proton treatment has not really worked.

Well, this was not the news we had hoped for, we were so looking forward to coming home soon.  We still may, it just depends on the outcome of these tests.

Please keep up the prayers, we are right on the edge between some ok news and some really bad.  We think about you guys all the time and can't wait to be home.  We will continue to you updated as we learn more.  All our love,
Samara, Dave and Piper
