Dickens Christmas Fair 2008 September Missive #2
(sent September 22nd, 2008)
Hello everyone and Happy Autumnal Equinox, or Mabon, the moment when
day (light) is equal to night (dark)
and balance is created between them.
Please remember to contact the individual posters about any of the
missive blurbs, rather than replying to me, especially this time since
I will be away from my computer for a week or so. Remember if you want
to see any past missives, you can find them all and more at
http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html

Broadside (Mad Sal's) Music
Hall Auditions
We are looking for both a chairman and music hall performers. For
chairman, be prepared to "introduce" a Mad Sal's performer and improv a
bit with the "audience", plus sing a short period-type song. Please
bring the sheet music if possible, unless you're sure I know the song
already. For regular Broadside players, just bring the song.
Auditions will be held on Wed. Oct 1, 7PM in Oakland. Please contact
director Scrumbly Koldewyn at rkoldewyn@earthlink.net with any
questions and to schedule a time. You will be given address and
directions when your audition is scheduled.
Additional Book Character
Needed (Sam Weller)
(see previous missive for audition details)
Sam Weller is the irrepressible manservant of Mr Pickwick. One of
the most popular character in all of Dickens' works, he councils his
master with Cockney wisdom, and is totally devoted to him. He is
a friendly and courageous young man who makes friends easily and is
always quick with a joke or a plan to get his master out of trouble.
Siamsa Auditions
Do you have a love of and experience in some aspect of the music,
dance, history and cultures of the Celtic diaspora? Siamsa is
interested in adding convivial team players to our fun-loving,
hard-working family of performers: we are looking for musicians,
singers, dancers (or preferably any combination of the above) with
interest and experience in Scottish and/or Irish music and dance. Must
be willing to “perform without a net” if needed and be willing and able
to commit to 1 day per month rehearsals, and participation in
renaissance and modern venues as well as Dickens. If interested,
please find us during lunch on the first day of workshops to arrange an
audition time either first or second day of workshops. Go raibh maith
agat!
For more information, see our website: http://siamsa.net. or contact us
at info@siamsa.net

The Mad Maniacal Mixologist
Contest 2008

at least the fame) of mixing the best drink at the fair happens on
Sunday morning December 14th at 9:00AM (yes, I said NINE AM).
YOU MUST fill out an application for the contest and submit it by
Sunday evening of the first weekend of fair to be included. You
may be oh-so-clever and submit your application early via email if you
wish.
To enter, please email beveragechaos@gmail.com with the words Mad
Maniacal Mixologist in the subject line. You will receive a reply
email with the rules of the contest and an attachment with a simple
entry form. Fill out the form, save it to your computer and then
send it back to us as a new attachment. Voila! You will be
entered in the contest.
And One Last Good News
Posting (for now anyway)
Nancy Souza is recovering, albeit slowly, from hip repair surgery
performed May 16th. She actually walked on an undiagnosed broken
hip for two week prior to the surgery that hurt like a thousand
Madagascar bastards. She went back to work part-time on July 2. She's
still using a walker, but at least it's a cool candy-apple red
one. No, she does not know how she broke it - no falls, no hits,
no mosh pits, no leaping over tall buildings, etc. Somebody must've had
a voodoo doll. That's her story, and she's stickin' to it.
