Dickens Christmas Fair Missive
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2009 Dickens Christmas Fair Welcome Email
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello everyone and welcome to the missives for the 31st illustrious season of the Great Dickens Christmas Fair!

Grand Opening Friday November 27th
Saturdays and Sundays November 28th through December 20th
In the San Francisco Cow Palace Exhibition Halls

The holiday event for the perceptive, perspicacious reveler!
The favored festivities of the magnanimous multitudes!
The delightful destination of sagacious savants and frolicsome families!

As with previous years, I (Cat Taylor) will not only be sending you these informative missives, but also directing entertainment. That version of me can be reached at cat@redbarnproductions.org. Robert Young will once again be coordinating the theme characters, "special performance" groups and generally overseeing the acting at the fair, as well as portraying the illustrious Mr. Charles Dickens. You can reach him at robert@redbarnproductions.org

As I mentioned in a previous missive, the missives website at
http://www.cattaylor.com/missives.html
has been updated and now includes a link to our new email service, where you can subscribe, unsubscribe, or change your email address, all online. The missives site itself is set up to be easily accessible using your iPhone or similar mobile device.

Performer information is available on the Dickens Fair website at
http://dickensfair.com/performerinfo.htm
, please pass this link along to new folks who would like to know more. (workshop dates may still be in the process of being updated)

Workshops will once again be held on November 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th from 10:00AM to 5:00PM at Sunset Ridge Elementary School in Pacifica, with the third weekend of workshops and rehearsals at the Cow Palace. More on this in the next missive.

Thoughts from Kevin on Ten Years at The Cow Palace
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My how time flies!  Not only is it Dickens time (already!), but it has been ten years since Kevin and Leslie 'brought it back'.  Yes, ten years at the Cow Palace, this season.
Last year was the best attended Dickens Fair ever!  The economy kept people closer to home, and we added significant new promotions such as the free BART shuttle with big ads in the East Bay.  However, its been great show for 10 years and word of mouth has been our constant friend.  Now, with the shift away from radio and newspapers to ipods and social networking, it is really up to all of us to create a buzz.
Thank you in advance for all that you do to prepare for our beloved annual Dickensian Delights!  Everyone at Red Barn Productions has been working steadily on myriad details throughout the year. It is time now to begin our ensemble effort.  So dust off your topper, find that perfect new ribbon for your bonnet ...then post something fun on YouTube and great comments on every site you can find~!
Disney's "A Christmas Carol"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Disney's "A Christmas Carol" (Robert Zemeckis) hits theaters November 6th (perfect timing don't you think?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV7SwUmSuvc

Here's a very good interview piece with Zemeckis (and star Jim Carey) on the new tech used for this film called "performance capture" digital.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfMC3ApFVvs
(Carey plays Scrooge at 4 different ages and does all the ghosts!)

We are working with the Disney's local Animation company Image Movers, on local promotions, group sales and the like, but we have even more fun I store for you as a Dickens participant on this one...so stay tuned.

Faire(e) Community on Facebook
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One last thing for today... We have a huge community and keeping up with all the births, deaths, illnesses, weddings  and graduations is difficult. Rather than trying to include all of this news in the missive and since many of us are on Facebook, I created a group there called Fair(e) Community. You can find it here:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=133805907528&ref=ts
You do need to be a Facebook member to visit group page, but anyone can post, so news doesn't get lost if I'm not in the loop (which happens occasionally).
