Beware of Reunion.com
I've been getting emails purporting to be from people I know looking
for me on Reunion.com. What's really going on is that Reunion.com's
software is going into their address book and sending spam to everyone
in it. This is not the only online site that does this, I was
getting emails from another one with the same modus operandi earlier
this year. The moral of the story is, don't allow any of these sites
access to your online email address book.

Cow Palace Update
Dear Friend of the Cow Palace,
Thank you for receiving the flurry of emails in the last few weeks.
Thanks also if you wrote emails, sent faxes and made calls. Here is
where we are:
SB1527 moved ahead, passing the Assembly Committee on Appropriations on
8/7/08. We tried to get them to see that a long term lease of the 13
acres of Cow Palace remote parking lot is better than the forced sale
required by the bill. This fell on deaf ears.
Now the bill will proceed to the Assembly Floor for a full vote
sometime in the near future. No date has been set.
Please look for an Urgent Action email as soon as we have a target
date. We will also need to send letters and make calls to the Governor
at that time.
Again, you will get an email and details when it is time to act again.
Thanks!!!
Kevin
Dickens Fair: Legion
Fantastique Auditions
Yes! La Legion Fantastique, the Jules Verne area of Dickens Fair,
returns once again for a triumphant run. This year, we are focusing our
lens even tighter upon the characters and situations created by Jules
Verne. This year, we have transformed our (larger) environment
from a simple museum, into a small performance space! We will be
featuring theatrical presentations, character work, and audience
participation activities.
We are looking for talented actors who are willing to go the "extra
mile" for putting on a bigger than life performance…and who work well
with our audience. We have roles for adventurers, scientists,
explorers, and villains!
YES, WE HAVE FEMALE ROLES AVAILABLE!
Besides our character work, we will be featuring four…count them, FOUR
shows – each requiring its own cast! These shows are:
1. "Return to the Center of the Earth" – An audience participatory
"magic lantern" show. Bigger and better than last year's show! (2
actors, male or female)
2. "Quest for the Nautilus" – Another "magic lantern" show that pulls
the audience in on the adventure. (3 actors: 1male 2 male or female)
3. "Around the World With Phileas Fogg" – A mix of adventure and
variety show, featuring the cast of La Legion Fantastique. (various)
4. "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" – We are looking for 3 actors (male
or female) to perform this show once a day on the Sugar Plum Playhouse
Children's stage. We need actors who can project well, and don't mind
frantic and comedic acting. We will be holding auditions for "20K" on
SEPTEMBER 24!
To receive a character list, and/or to schedule an audition, please
contact Peter Overstreet at: legionfantastique@gmail.com

The Benicia Old Town Theatre
Group Needs Men!
Hi all you talented people,
The Benicia Old Town Theatre Group is still looking for MEN to audition
for "bottoms up!"- the Fall 2008 production opening Oct 17-Nov 8th.
The director is Michael Scahill and his assistant director is Rachel
Obrestad. The descriptions are as follows:
EDDY, THE PORTER: 20s to 30s. Young, handsome, completely amoral,
decidedly larcenous.
SMITH: 20s to 40s. A wannabe wiseguy with delusions of competence.
Probably still lives in his mother’s basement.
TONY SCOPEC: 30s to 50s. Dreams of becoming the “Tony Soprano” of
Cleveland. Will probably find fulfillment as a licensed
exterminator.
GEORGE RUSHMORE: 30s to late 50s.Shameless self promoter, always
looking for the next score, perpetually broke, inept director of adult
films looking for the big break.
KEITH: teens to early 20s. Perpetually stoned cameraman and probably
the only sane person in the bunch..
PUMPHREY: 30 to 40. The quintessential nerd. Clueless, oblivious,
nervous, judgmental, clumsy. .
If you can suggest someone available for rehearsals staring sept 2,
please have him call Sarah Rozett -

Rule, Britannia!
Britannia rule the stars!
Britain’s flag extends to Venus, Mercury and Mars!
Don't miss PEERS' third venture into the world of Victorian Steampunk:
Space 1889 - a Victorian Ball in Space. Program your Babbage Analytical
Engines, sail the luminiferous ether between the worlds to this
Nineteenth Century science fiction ball, and keep Venus British!
The year is an alternate 1889 in which, thanks to inventor Thomas Alva
Edison, computer engineer Thomas Babbage, software developer Ada,
Countess of Lovelace, visionary scientists Herbert George Wells and
Jules Verne, and many other distinguished men and women of science and
engineering, the Victorians have air and space travel, high technology,
computers (analytical engines), calculators (difference engines),
efficient software (the versatile and elegant ADA), and even email
(“electric messaging”). The Great Game has extended to Outer Space with
Great Britain, Germany, Russia and those intrepid Americans rushing to
colonize every planet in sight. Welcome to Space 1889. This is the
milieu of our ball.
Join His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and His Excellency, the
Governor of Her Majesty’s Crown Colony of Venus, for a formal ball to
celebrate the 10 year anniversary of British rule on the planet.
Diplomats, explorers, scientists and artists from Earth and from around
the galaxy are cordially invited to attend.
Bangers & Mash, that most British of American dance bands, plays
the greatest dance hits of the 1880’s, 1890’s, and early 1900's for an
evening of vintage ballroom dancing. Dance beautiful waltzes, polkas,
mazurkas, schottisches, reels, The Lancers, and some of those dashing
new American dances (the Ragtime Two-Step and the Tango from
Argentina). All “new” dances and pattern dances will be (briefly)
taught or called, and partners are not required. For those of you
wishing to brush up on the ballroom dances of the late 19th century,
there will also be a pre-ball dance class at 7:00 pm.
Suggested costume is late Victorian or Edwardian evening dress, dress
uniform (the year is technically 1889 but this IS an alternate universe
so you can use your imagination), “Venusian” evening dress or science
fiction/fantasy costume appropriate to the balls theme. As usual,
however, costumes are admired, not required. You scientists,
engineers, and inventors are also most welcome to bring your latest
gadgets and portable inventions (We’d love to see your Victorian
laptops, cell phones and pagers, for instance!).
We are honoured to announce a special guest performance by the Queen of
the Venusian Trapeze and star of the Cirque de Venus, Ariyana le Fey,
and an appearance by our guests of honour, the celebrated Le Legion
Fantastique.
The evening also features a no-host (cash) bar, a light snack buffet
(your potluck contributions are, as always, very welcome), and an
interactive performance by the Peerless Music Hall.
